I was thrilled to find out the other day that a fantastic new online country music radio channel has gone live.

PureCountry.com.au - "Australia's Best Country" has a progressive country format playing primarily new country with a few old favourites thrown in.

Having listened for a couple of days now, I'm incredibly impressed with what I've heard.

Announcers on the station include commercial radio identities Lee Bevington and Peter Burgham.

Initiatives like this can only assist the growth business of country music and help build the profile of our new wave of talent here in Australia. But most importantly, the station sounds fantastic.

The company behind the site, the Australian Radio Network (ARN) tried a country format on Sydney radio when they owned 2SM in the early 90's. However the financial realities of poor initial ratings meant they couldn't take the time to build an audience and interest in the music.

They wont have that problem this time around, because being online there wont be a necessity for a massive listenership straight up.

I anticipate the listenership will grow nicely though anyway.
