25/06/06 - Lee Kernaghan, The McClymonts & Tania Kernaghan @ The Mean Fiddler, Rouse Hill

By Tim Holland

This evening I headed out to catch Lee Kernaghan, The McClymonts and Tania Kernaghan perform at the Mean Fiddler at Rouse Hill as part of the highly successful The New Bush Tour.

Around 750 people (of all ages) attended the show while 880 attended a show at Wyong Leagues club the previous evening. I’m told that these figures have been very consistent throughout the whole tour.

Tania kicked off the evening with a set that included her The Music Network Hot 30 top 10 hit, Harley McTargget and plenty of audience participation and interaction.

The McClymonts followed straight after performing songs from their self titled EP. They are an incredibly polished act and looked like they’d been performing together all their life, which is no surprise because they are sisters, so they probably have. Obvious comparisons are being made The McClymonts and the Dixie Chicks, but I don't anticipate that these girls intend to be nearly as controversial!

Headline Lee Kernaghan finished things with a ninety minute set featuring songs from his new album, The New Bush and other old favourites. The combination of Lee and Tania mixed in with the youthful and vibrant McClymont sisters is proving to be a real winner.

The Mean Fiddler continues to improve as a venue. I remember seeing a James Blundell show there in early 1993 when the place was basically a shed and not much else. It has been regularly renovated since that time and is now a very impressive entertainment complex featuring several bars, eateries and the Woolshed itself, which is a fantastic venue for live shows.

Around fifty shows have already been scheduled for The New Bush tour with more to be announced over the Christmas and New Year period. Part of those plans include beach shows in metropolitan areas. Stay tuned for more details as venues are confirmed.
